Meier-BVB-Trauma
Cologne - He was with President Gerd Niebaum synonymous with the rise and success of Borussia Dortmund. But in the end the manager as Niebaum had to leave the BVB in the big existential crisis and had to contend with hostile action.
FC manager Michael Meier speaks three years later, only very restrained about the bad end of his 16-year career with Dortmund, "The time has left me with scars," Meier said recently during EXPRESS visit, "the criticism myself then met in Dortmund, still drives me today. I want to correct. My mission is not finished yet, "says the 58-year-old, who stands before the contract extension in Cologne. And so is the game of FC on Wednesday against Borussia Meier for a "special game", as he admits. Wants to go down to details, the manager does not.
Christoph Daum knows why: "It is not in Michael's way of talking about it big. Just as he lets his emotions even if successful, the public does not run wild, he speaks not like about this bad time for him. "But the FC coach thinks about the mood of the manager to:" Michael will not forget. The Dortmund Time has gnawed at him. He was then extravaganzas disappeared in a very unfair way. He has tried to pull the cart with Dortmund out of the mud. This was a tour de force. As was then seen a silver lining on the horizon, one has him extravaganzas disappeared. "
As Meier with Niebaum presented the annual review 2003/04, amounted to, inter alia, the total debt of Borussia Dortmund & Co. KGaA to 118.8 million euros. Meier said in June 2005, the consolidation program was developed by him and Niebauer. BVB was "all set up in all good again." Today BVB boss Hans-Joachim Watzke saw it at the time quite differently. Meier, he will also meet on Wednesday.
FC coach Daum praised Meier, however only in the highest terms: "The re-structuring of the FC is significantly associated with his name. Michael is doing a great job. With him, we want to build a new success story of FC. "
